My 'Have teenagers gone wild'? response

I found this article very helpful. I'm really glad that the rates of teenage pregnancy has gone down a little, but it's still very high. I can see how some teenagers might think that oral is better then the real thing because there is no risk in pregnancy, but there is a good chance that you could get an STD if you don't use protection. I think this article is very very true.

'Have American teenagers gone wild'? Notes

- births to 15- to 19-year-olds had risen for the first time in more than a decade.

-talk show host Tyra Banks declared a teen sex crisis last fall after her show surveyed girls about sexual behavior

- some young people are clearly engaging in risky sexual behavior, a vast majority are not

- 1995, about 20 percent said they had had sex before age 15

- 2002 those numbers had dropped to 13 percent of girls and 15 percent of boys.

- teenage abortion rates have also dropped.

- very likely reflects changing patterns in contraceptive use rather than a major change in sexual behavior

-For teens, sex requires time and lack of supervision

- some teenagers may view oral sex as ''safer,'' since unplanned pregnancy is not an issue.
