My Secret Life of the American Teenager Response (for week of March 8-15)

I really didn't find this article helpful at all because it was just a review of the show. And I really disagree with what the reviewer had to say. I personally watch this show and there is a lot more to it then just a teenage girl that got pregnant at band camp. It brings up a lot of issues that need to be addressed. Then there is also the drama of the baby's daddy and the boyfriend, who are 2 different people.

My Secret Life of the American Teenager Notes (for week of march 8- 15. you said this was ok because I'm on Vacation)

-Some people are finding the TV show disturbing

-Reviews say that this show is more like a TV special that teens should watch with their parents instead of a series

- The show gives good advice, but is almost like a middle school health class video

-Show has a poor story line

-There is a high need for a show with teenage pregnancy

My "Hollywood is a factor in teenage pregnancy" response!

I do think that it's parents jobs to make sure what their children watch is appropriate, but I think that Hollywood does play a roll in teenage pregnancy. When watching TV, there are a lot of commercials and previews for movies that are coming to theaters, and they make the movies look really good, which makes us kids want to see it, whether or not it's appropriate. When we all saw the preview for Superbad, we all wanted to see it because it showed the funny parts. We didn't sit there and think, hmm I wonder how inappropriate this movie is. I guess teens and their parents need to figure out what is appropriate and what isn't, and figure out what's best for that certain kid. Paying attention to the ratings, like G, PG, PG-13, and R and finding the one that best fits that kid.

My 'Hollywood is a factor in teenage pregnancy" Notes

-Stephen Baldwin, the younger brother of Alec Baldwin, acted in some violent and sexually explicit movies, says that what young people watch affect their behavior

-He disagrees with what most of Hollywood is saying about how the only reasons teen pregnancy is rising is because parents don't monitor what their kids watch

-Hollywood says its the parents job to see what young people watch

-“I’m not saying that Hollywood or people that create content in Hollywood should not be allowed to do it,” said Baldwin. “I’m saying that the people who want more conservative content out there need to get into positions where they can create that.”
